## The Value of American-Made, Handcrafted Furniture

Choosing American-made, handcrafted dining tables isn't just about beautiful design—it's about investing in quality, longevity, and craftsmanship you can truly trust. Our artisans use locally sourced hardwoods—think sturdy white oak, classic cherry, or even reclaimed barnwood from the heart of the Midwest or Northeast—to ensure every table not only looks stunning but stands up to everyday life for generations.

Every table supports American workers and local communities, imbuing your space with a sense of pride and purpose. And because each piece is made from finely selected materials, you're not just buying a table; you're bringing home a future heirloom. With a bit of care, your table will develop character and charm, becoming the backdrop for family dinners, holiday celebrations, and quiet Sunday mornings for years to come.

- [Live Edge & Straight Edge Slab Tables and Tops](/furniture/live-edge-tables.md): Made to Order—Live Edge or Straight Edge Every slab table we create is made to order. Although we call them live edge tables, your finished tabletop does not have to keep the natural live edge. A growing trend is to cut the live edge away for a cleaner, straighter silhouette—an especially beautiful option if you do not want the in-and-out movement of a natural edge. When we remove the live edge, you still receive a striking slab top approximately two inches thick. Unlike a dimensional tabletop assembled from several narrower boards, your top can be crafted from one beautiful single slab or from two consecutive slabs joined as a book-matched pair. You can see examples of tables with the live edge removed below. Once we know what you are looking for, I personally source the slabs for you from the Pennsylvania sawmills we work with. We will begin with your approximate dimensions and the character you want in the wood. You may prefer a wide single slab or a book-matched top, a cleaner slab with a quieter grain, or a slab with dramatic movement and natural character. As I find slabs that fit your vision, I will send you photos and videos so you can see the wood and be part of the selection process. A $500 sourcing fee begins this personalized process. The full $500 is credited toward your final invoice once we select the wood species and slab size and confirm the price of your table. From a Pennsylvania Tree to Your Home The slabs used to craft our live edge tables come from Pennsylvania trees that have fallen naturally or needed to be taken down for safety or health reasons. After the fallen tree trunks arrive at the sawmill, they are cut into slabs approximately 2 to 2-1/4 inches thick. The slabs are then air-dried in a temperature-controlled building for at least one year. Before we craft them into furniture, they undergo additional kiln drying at a higher temperature for many weeks. This critical drying process helps create consistent density throughout the wood, prepares the slab for life inside your home, and allows us to craft a smooth, beautiful tabletop that can better withstand changes in temperature and humidity. Choose the Look and Character of Your Slab We offer two primary slab options for tabletops: Book-matched tabletop: Two consecutive slabs from the same tree are joined in the center, creating a balanced, mirror-image effect. Single-slab tabletop: One wide slab is selected for its proportions, grain, movement, and natural character. Either option can retain its natural live edge or be cut straight for a cleaner profile. Removing the live edge is especially popular for kitchen island tops and for clients who love the width, thickness, and character of slab wood but prefer a more refined silhouette. Wood Species, Finish, and Bases Commonly available species include walnut, cherry, maple, oak, sycamore, hickory, and elm. Each species has its own color, grain pattern, movement, and character. We would be happy to help you choose the wood that best complements your home and existing décor. Our durable clearcoat protects the tabletop while showcasing the wood's natural patina and distinctive grain. We primarily pair our slab tops with metal bases because their simple profiles keep the focus where it belongs: on the artistry, grain, and movement of the wood. We offer a wide variety of metal base styles so you can select one that complements both your slab and your space without competing with the top. Live Edge and Slab Table Pricing For tables beginning at 84 inches long and approximately 40 to 44 inches wide: In Oak, Maple Sycamore and Cherry (Walnut would be more) Book-matched tabletops start at $2,900. Single-slab tabletops start at $3,400. Final pricing depends on the wood species, exact dimensions, and the slab selected. Once we know the size you need and the type of slab you are looking for, we can provide a more specific estimate. Begin Your Live Edge or Straight Edge Slab Table Tell us your approximate table dimensions, preferred wood species if you have one, and whether you are drawn to a clean, straight edge or a natural edge with more movement and character. We will guide you through the options and help you select a slab that feels right for your home. A live edge or slab table is more than furniture. It is a unique piece of Pennsylvania's landscape—rescued, revived, and crafted to last. Each one-of-a-kind table preserves the story of its tree, honors sustainable practices, and brings artistry and heritage into your home. We are here to guide you through the entire process — from raw slabs at the sawmill to the finished tabletop, island top, bar top, or console top in your home. Below are photos of live edge and slab tables we have crafted for customers, with and without the live edge. Every slab was personally sourced for that customer, and I am happy to say each one was thrilled with the result. Ready to begin your table?
