Our Story:

Our story began when we bought a forgotten property in Chester County with a deteriorating 1813 stone house and a bank barn so damaged that everyone said it should be torn down—but hidden in those rotting timbers was the beginning of Furniture From The Barn.


When an Amish demo crew arrived in 2006 to tear down the barn, they explained how the old boards could be carefully removed and reused rather than destroyed. Back then, reclaimed barn wood wasn't the sought-after material it is today—old barns were typically burned or sent to landfills. From those very boards that once sheltered hay and livestock, Michael built our first piece—a farmhouse table that Kelly's father finished with natural oils. It never made it to our kitchen; a boutique store purchased it immediately, and orders began pouring in. We transformed our salvaged wood into a thriving business, starting with Etsy, Craigslist, and local artisan shows before establishing our website where customers now find us directly.

For nearly two decades, we've transformed reclaimed barn wood and premium American hardwoods into handcrafted custom furniture with soul. Every piece tells a story—from the weathered patina of century-old timber to the rich grain of carefully selected new wood. From those first salvaged floorboards to today, what matters most to us remains unchanged: Michael leading our skilled craftsmen in building each piece while Kelly oversees our finishing artisans and works directly with customers, bringing their furniture dreams to life with the same personal care and passion that built that very first farmhouse table.

Kelly is the creative force and master artisan behind FURNITURE FROM THE BARN bringing her artistic taste and design expertise to every customer interaction and furniture sale. Known as the "mother hen" of the operation, Kelly ensures that each piece is crafted with meticulous attention to detail from start to finish. Her passion for design is matched by her commitment to providing exceptional customer service, making every client feel valued and appreciated. In her downtime, Kelly enjoys practicing yoga and pilates, which help her maintain balance and focus. She finds inspiration in the natural beauty of Longwood Gardens and is deeply committed to animal rescue efforts. Living on a farm surrounded by animals brings her joy, especially when she spends time with her beloved grandson.

Michael

Michael

Owner / Draftsman / Master Carpenter

Michael is a master carpenter with over 38 years of experience, largely self-taught, and was a member of Philadelphia's Carpentry Union for several decades. His expertise in carpentry is extensive, allowing him to build anything made of wood, from furniture to structural elements of his 1813 farmhouse. Michael is also responsible for overseeing the team in the building shop and working on custom furniture designs. Additionally, hardware is one of his specialties. Michael is involved daily in maintaining and managing the family farm, ensuring everything is in top condition. Michael enjoys fly fishing, especially in Montana, and especially loves spending time with his grandson.

Patty

Patty

Finishing Shop Manager / Artisan

Patty has been with us for 13 years now. She is one of our artisans who has an eye for color and creative finishing techniques. Always wearing multiple hats, she also is an art teacher at Lincoln University and has taught numerous courses in Fine Art & Design at various schools in the area, and works as a local artist. She resides on a small farm with a family of furred and feathered friends and goats and enjoys riding horses in her spare time.

Reenie

Reenie

Administrative Assistant / Artisan

Joining us 10 years ago, Reenie has become a wonderful asset to FFTB. She primarily works in the office and is Kelly right hand girl, we call her the hardware queen but also helps in the shop with the finishing aspects of milk painting and specialized distressing and glazing. She is a local self-taught artist, a fine art impressionist painter, studies and teaches art, and exhibits her work in local galleries. Being a well-traveled and cultured individual, we love Reenie's insight on everything from French cooking to farming in the South of France. Reenie also has horses.

Diego

Shop Foreman

Diego has been with us for many years. He is the glue that keeps our shop running smoothly and is the king of multitasking and does quality control. He remembers every customer order, oversees our finishing shop, and is a liaison between Michael and our builders. He also does a lot of driving to pick up materials. In his free time, he enjoys spending quilty time with his family and two kids. He loves working with us because he says, "every day there is something new and exciting in the shop"

Meet-n-Greet Coordinator

Bailey is the newest addition to our family. Born in December 2025, he is our fourth Golden Retriever since starting Furniture From The Barn. Bailey loves running around the farm, playing in the water, and visiting the pond. He and Gracie are wonderful playmates, and he loves greeting customers when they visit.

Funny Girl/Therapist

Meet Gracie, our Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, also known as a "Swissy." Her friendly, loyal, and playful nature brings so much joy to our farm and showroom. Gracie loves the outdoors, enjoys playing with Bailey, and delights in greeting visitors with her gentle charm.
